Re-membering Community:
A Somatic Approach to Intercultural Development
In a world defined by change, true leadership is a practice of embodied sustenance. This immersive program is designed to move participants beyond cognitive understanding of cultural differences ("knowing") into embodied adaptation ("being"). By utilizing the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) to assess current orientations, participants use somatic practices (grounding, interoception, and nervous system regulation) to navigate the emotional and physical discomfort that arises during cross-cultural encounters. By developing a deeper mind body presence, participants will learn to navigate cultural nuances, inspire authentic engagement, and foster more meaningful relationships.
Re-membering Community integrates the developmental stages of intercultural competence with embodied awareness techniques (somatics) to bridge cultural differences through the body and emotional attunement with cognitive reframing.
National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI)
The National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) is an internationally recognized organization dedicated to developing leadership for impactful team building, and coalition building. Offered as a full-day or half-day program, the NCBI Workshop has been successfully delivered in schools, nonprofits, corporations, and government agencies worldwide. To learn more about NCBI visit, www.ncbi.org.
As certified NCBI lead facilitators, Deborah and Idella will guide participants through experiential, step-by-step activities designed to build meaningful connections. Participants will explore shared and diverse experiences across groups, challenge learned misinformation, and confront internalized bias, transforming self-directed prejudice into pride in identity. Through personal storytelling and practical skill-building, they will deepen empathy, understand the impact of discrimination, and gain tools to address prejudice with confidence and respect.
The Sustained Dialogue®
Deborah successfully completed the Sustained Dialogue® Moderator Skill Series, a five-stage, dialogue-to-action process designed to build relationships, deepen understanding, and inspire meaningful community change. Grounded in the philosophy of Dr. Harold Saunders, Sustained Dialogue emphasizes “listening deeply enough to be changed by what you learn.”
Drawing on this framework, Deborah facilitates spaces where participants can explore shared and differing perspectives, reflect on personal and collective experiences, and move from conversation to collaborative action. Through this process, groups strengthen trust, address complex issues constructively, and create pathways for lasting positive change.
